Daniel Meyers

Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President

Mr. Meyers is a Co-Founder of First Marblehead. He has served as our Chief Executive Officer and President and as a Director since September 2008 and as Chairman of the Board of Directors since May 2010. Mr. Meyers also served as our Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors from our incorporation in 1994 to September 2005 and as our President from November 2004 to September 2005. From 1980 to 1991, Mr. Meyers was involved in arbitrage and derivatives trading at EF Hutton, Prudential Bache Securities, LF Rothschild Unterberg Towbin and Commodities Corporation, each of which were financial services firms. He began working on ABS financings in 1986. He currently serves as the Chair Emeritus of the Board of the Curry School of Education Foundation, as well as a consulting member of the finance committee of the Board of Visitors at the University of Virginia. Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Board of Steward Medical Group, a system of eight hospitals headquartered in Boston. He serves on the Board of the Forum for the Future of Higher Education. Mr. Meyers received an A.B. in Economics from Brandeis University and completed the Owner President Management Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

William P. Baumer

Managing Director, Chief Risk Officer

Mr. Baumer has served as our Chief Risk Officer since September 2007, as a Managing Director since September 2008 and as the Chief Executive Officer of our subsidiary Union Federal Savings Bank since July 2010. Mr. Baumer served as our Senior Vice President, Compliance from July 2004 to September 2007. From 2003 to June 2004, Mr. Baumer served as the Compliance Manager for the nationwide mortgage operations at Bank of America, N.A. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Baumer was the Compliance Director-Core Banking for Fleet Boston Financial Corporation, a bank that was acquired by Bank of America, and was responsible for regulatory compliance programs in Fleet's consumer, commercial and administrative staff units. He joined Fleet in 1984 and held various leadership positions in the Compliance, Audit, Credit and Retail Banking business units. Mr. Baumer received a B.S. from Franklin Pierce College and has earned Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist certifications.

Kenneth Klipper

Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Klipper has served as our Chief Financial Officer and as a Managing Director since September 2008 and served as Treasurer and Chief Accounting Officer from November 2006 to April 2011. Mr. Klipper served as our Senior Vice President, Finance from March 2005 to September 2008. From April 2003 to March 2005, Mr. Klipper served as the Chief Executive Officer of Brown Co., an online brokerage firm owned, at the time, by JPMorgan. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of Brown Co. from January 2003 to April 2003. From May 2002 to January 2003, Mr. Klipper served as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Park Street Capital, a private equity firm. From January 2000 to April 2002, Mr. Klipper served as the Chief Financial Officer of Tucker Anthony Sutro, Inc., a publicly traded securities brokerage firm. Prior to joining Tucker Anthony, Mr. Klipper served for five years as both the Chief Financial Officer and Controller for the securities brokerage unit of Fidelity Investments, and he held positions with KPMG LLP, a registered public accounting firm, for 11 years. Mr. Klipper received a B.S. from the University of Richmond and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Seth Gelber

Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Gelber has served as our Chief Operating Officer since August 2012 and as a Managing Director since September 2008. He served as our Chief Administrative Officer from March 2010 to August 2012 and as our Senior Vice President, Corporate Development from August 2008 to September 2008. From 2001 to 2006, Mr. Gelber held various positions at First Marblehead in the Capital Markets and Product Strategy groups. Since October 2006, Mr. Gelber has served as President of Sextant Holdings, LLC, a private investment firm, the sole member of which is Mr. Meyers. From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Gelber served as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Jack Quinn (N.Y.), primarily focused on education, telecommunication and banking legislation. Mr. Gelber received a B.A. from The George Washington University.

Barry Heneghan

Managing Director, Business Development and Product Strategy

Mr. Heneghan has served as our Managing Director, Business Development and Product Strategy, since January 2011. From 1996 to January 2006, Mr. Heneghan held various positions at First Marblehead in the Business Development, Corporate Development and Product Strategy groups. From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Heneghan served as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Jack Quinn (N.Y.). Mr. Heneghan received a B.A. from The George Washington University, an M.A. from Pennsylvania State University and attended the London School of Economics.

Gary F. Santo, Jr.

Managing Director, Head of Capital Markets

Mr. Santo has served as our Head of Capital Markets since July 2010 and as a Managing Director since September 2008. From September 2008 to July 2010, Mr. Santo served as Co-Head of Capital Markets. From July 2007 to September 2008, Mr. Santo served as a Managing Director in the Structured Finance Group at Fitch, Inc., a global ratings agency. While at Fitch, Mr. Santo managed the Consumer ABS Group, which was responsible for the credit rating analysis of privately and publicly placed asset-backed securities, including those backed by student loans, credit card receivables and tobacco settlements. From January 1996 to June 2007, Mr. Santo held various positions at First Marblehead in the Capital Markets and Investor Relations groups. Mr. Santo served as a Financial Aid Officer at Mount Ida College from January 1993 to January 1996 and at Boston University from September 1991 to January 1993. Mr. Santo received a B.A. from Boston University.

David Pelkey

Managing Director, Loan Operations and Information Technology

Mr. Pelkey has served as our Managing Director, Operations and Information Technology, since March 2012. From December 2000 to February 2012, Mr. Pelkey held various positions with our Tuition Management Systems subsidiary, leading its Operations, Information Technology, and Consumer Sales teams and serving most recently as a Managing Director. Prior to joining First Marblehead, Mr. Pelkey was Vice President of Information Technology at PharmaCare, a division of CVS, a technology consultant at Ciber, and held various leadership positions at McCormick & Company and Bausch & Lomb. Mr. Pelkey received a B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Suzanne Murray

Managing Director, General Counsel and Secretary

Ms. Murray has served as our General Counsel since August 2012 and as a Managing Director and our Secretary since May 2012. She served as our Acting General Counsel from May 2012 to August 2012 and as our Senior Counsel, Corporate Law from March 2010 to April 2012. From October 2007 to February 2010, Ms. Murray was a Partner at Goodwin Procter LLP, and from October 2000 to September 2007, Ms. Murray was an associate at Goodwin Procter. While at Goodwin Procter, Ms. Murray practiced general corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, SEC compliance, and corporate governance matters. Ms. Murray received a B.A. from Boston College and a J.D. from Boston College Law School.

Deirdre Bertrand

Managing Director, Product Strategy

Ms. Bertrand has served as Managing Director, Product Strategy, since September 2008. From September 2003 to September 2008, Ms. Bertrand held various positions at First Marblehead in the Business Development and Product Strategy groups. From 2000 to September 2003, Ms. Bertrand worked in the Investment Banking division of Robertson Stephens and Jefferies & Co., where she helped companies in the Specialty Finance sector raise capital in public and private capital markets. Ms. Bertrand received a B.A. from Middlebury College.

Michial Thompson

Managing Director, Credit Risk Management

Mr. Thompson has served as Managing Director, Credit Risk Management, since September 2010. From September 2006 to September 2010, Mr. Thompson held various positions at First Marblehead in the Credit Risk Management and Portfolio Management groups. From December 1999 to September 2002, Mr. Thompson worked at Capital One Financial Corporation, focusing on credit risk modeling and analytics. From August 2002 to August 2005, he was a Mathematics Instructor at University of Virginia, and from December 2005 to August 2006, he served as Associate Professor of Mathematics at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Mr. Thompson received a B.S. and an M.S. from Purdue University.

Melissa Bassett

Managing Director, National Sales

Ms. Bassett has served as a Managing Director of National Sales since September 2010. From April 2007 to September 2010, Ms. Bassett served as Vice President, National Sales, leading the National School Distribution Channel as well as the Priority Service Team. From June 2005 to April 2007, Ms. Bassett served as the Executive Vice President of School Solutions at College Loan Corporation, a student lending company, where she launched the national sales and marketing efforts of its sister brand, Student Capital Corporation. From August 1999 to June 2005, Ms. Bassett managed the East Coast Sales District and the Electronic Office National Sales Team at Citibank, The Student Loan Corporation. Ms. Bassett received a B.A. from Skidmore College and an M.B.A. from Bentley University.

Jo-Ann Burnham

Managing Director, Human Resources

Ms. Burnham has served as Managing Director of Human Resources since September 2008. From February 2006 to September 2008, Ms. Burnham served as Vice President of Corporate Strategic Relationships, managing First Marblehead's critical business alliances with guarantors and servicers. From July 2003 to February 2006, Ms. Burnham served as the Vice President of Corporate Services, directing all aspects of administrative support and service functions for the organization. Prior to that, Ms. Burnham served in various senior positions across the company, including executive and board support roles. Ms. Burnham is an active member of various human resources industry associations and has an associate's degree from Marian Court College. Ms. Burnham has also completed the Simmons College Executive Leadership Management Program.
